I see Your ways – but which path do I take?

Print this entry

“Show me your ways, Lord, Teach me your paths.”  Ps. 25:4

Lord – Good morning.  I slept in just a tad, but You were still faithful to give me a Word to hang on!!  Listed above.  I am going through that paralyzing thing where until I get through something I cant do anything else.  Well, that thing is this parade of homes Christmas deal we have on Saturday.  Could be hundreds walking through our home and judging whether I have it together or not (hope they dont open closets) and at the very least telling themselves, “She put a good effort”!!  Ha ha  I am really getting nervous about all that and really self-conscious.  That is really not my style, but for some reason I have definitely listened to the defeated one on this!  I want people to not only to see the Joy of the Lord throughout the house, but to feel His peace.  My prayer!!!  I want to bless them!

I have been praying a lot about some specific things with the ministry.  I have some decisions to make, but I really want the Lord’s guidance.  One of the reasons I love that verse above and why it really resounds with me lately!

I like how the verse says – SHOW me your ways – There is only ONE way to do things or I mean there is on way the Lord would have things done- to His glory and honor – so we ask that the Lord SHOW us.  Lord, what would you have me to do here???  And then He shows us the ultimate purpose over and over and onver in the Word!!

TEACH me your paths – seems to have a bit of a different direction to it.  It implies to me the may have one way to do things – Your Ways – but there will be many different paths to get there.  It is God’s way to give each of a different journey to walk wtih Him, but we are all doing it for His honor and glory!  His way is clear and His paths too, but deciding the path HE has specifically for me takes much prayer and guidance!

A friend called the other day asking me to pray about a situation.  I was given specific names to pray for, I was given a certain amount of time,  I was given NO details – but just asked to pray for these folks.  I think the world of this friend and so with much enthusiasm I jumped for it.  This was part of the prayer – “Lord, show them your ways and guide them down their each individual paths to accomplish your ways!”

Im praying the same for me now!  Now if i could ever just get past the Parade of Homes – ha ha!  Remember paralyzed!

Im excited for next week.  I hope to get out 2 or 3 guest posts.  Im loving blessing my readers this way and blessing those that are writing!!  Fun fun!

Love to hear about things on your heart and if you ever get paralyzed?

Much Love, Leigh

Thank you for being used by Him and bringing Joy to us!!  You are a treasured jewel!  Leigh

Little is Much When God is in it

We are dreamers. We dream of doing huge things, having wonderful things and simply “making it.” We have lofty goals and take radical steps towards reaching them.  Then, when we realize that what we want may never happen or the dreams may never come true, we sit in disbelief and wonder what we could have done differently. Sometimes we even decide “what’s the use, IT just doesn’t matter anymore” and put ourselves in a “do nothing” mode. This should be a red flag to us, but often it’s not.

We’ve taken our eyes off the prize, we are letting discouragement win and we forget that little is much when God is in it.  Our hearts scream of doing more when in reality we need to focus on our strengths and remain faithful to do those thing.  We set our eyes on the unattainable when our eyes should be on the ordinary items within our reach. Those ordinary items will be the little things that God uses to do amazing work for His glory; after all, our labor IS for His glory….right?

Have you given much thought to the little things that God used? When 5,000 men (not to mention women and children) needed to be fed, Jesus didn’t send word to the nearest palace to have their servants bring the biggest and best foods available. He didn’t break out the finest china and whip up a five course meal using the top chefs of the land.  A young boy offered Jesus a small lunch of bread and fish that was just enough for this one little boy and Jesus took his willingness, blessed it and served a multitude with 12 baskets to spare.

I constantly remind myself and others, it’s not in what we offer the Lord, it’s THAT we give of ourselves, use our talents and be available to follow His lead, even if it means ignoring our own hopes and dreams. We focus on fears and failures when we should be focusing on the Father.  We give in to our whiny selves and listen to that voice that says “why bother” when we should be faithful with the little things that God has entrusted us with.

Take some time to think about your talents and your strengths.  Are you using those gifts for the Lord? Are you being faithful to what God has called you to do?  We are all called to be edifying one another, are you building up others and encouraging them?  Little is much when God is blessing it.  You feel as though you don’t make a difference and even that you simply don’t matter, but you do.  God looks at you through the eyes of compassion, longing for you to simply be faithful to do what you know is right in His eyes.

Little is much when God is in it – think about these little things:

  • You spend time each day praising the Lord via Social Media. Your praise is picked up by someone half a world away who is discouraged, but your thankfulness has reminded them of a past blessing. They are encouraged and strengthened. They are praising God regularly now, due to your praise.
  • You purchase the Bible study books but write in a regular notebook so you can pass along the book to someone else. You allow someone who is financially struggling to draw closer to the Lord. They draw closer, their family notices and someone else is hearing God’s tugging at their heart.
  • You give your last $10.00 to a special offering or ministry focused on others. A child receives something that his/her parent had no hope of getting them. They grow up, remembering the kindness of strangers and make it their mission to help others.
  • You leave a note for someone who seems a little bit down lately, telling them how special they are.  They woke up crying tears of sorrow because they felt worthless, but later went to sleep, crying tears of joy because someone actually cares.
  • You smile and nod at a passerby, not knowing that their day has left them wondering how things will ever get better. Your compassionate smile reminded them that there is hope and tomorrow will bring another day to try again.

If you feel like you don’t have much to give or wonder how you could possibly make it one more month, give your little bit to Jesus and let Him use it. Give your talents, abilities, finances or lack thereof to the Lord and tell him it’s His, to do what he wants to with it and then trust him.  Trust Him for the wisdom of the next step, for the power to make it through one more day and for the ability to make a huge difference with what He’s given you.

You were given the strengths, talents, insights and wisdom that you have for a reason. You can influence others that no one else can.  You have the ability to shine and be Matthew 5:16 out loud for the Lord.  Remaining faithful to the little things you can do now will have you in the habit of faithfully following and serving the Lord, so that when He gives us more to do, He knows, beyond doubt, that we will be faithful to complete it.

YOU simply need to be available and willing to do whatever it is….BIG or SMALL that God wants you to do. When you do, trust that HE will bless it and use it mightily.  Trust that your faithfulness to listen to your heart will encourage others to do the same.

Trust that Little is MUCH more than you can ever imagine – when GOD is in it.

Take stock in the ordinary resources you have around you. Get into the habit of spreading joy and making a difference with those resources and when more resources come your way, you’ll be faithful to make a difference with those as well.

I can never tell if you are mad at me!!!

Print this entry

If you have ever heard me speak or at least seen my videos you will know right off that I am pretty energetic, quite dramatic, and by no means monotoned.  My mom is very much the same way.  I love to laugh and do so very often – same as my mom.  I would say that I often act a ‘few’ years younger than I should.  I love to have a good time!  Silly pictures and videos on facebook will prove this point.  In the private of my home my daughters are very much the same way.

My husband on the other hand is quite professional.  I don’t think you would ever say that my husband is silly.  Oh yes, he has his hilarious moments – in fact, he is extremely funny, witty, and humorously creative.  But just to see him out and about you will be impressed with his mature demeanor and charismatic gentleness.  Clay is just like his father!  You will not see any silly pictures of Clay on facebook and I doubt he will ever be videoed making a complete fool of himself the way I often do!

Make no mistake there is no doubt in any of the kids’ minds they know who loves them.  And most people I would say know where they stand with Clay and I.  I may come across a bit more reserved, but once I get to know you there is nothing I hide or wont do – fun things, ha ha!  I have moved so often in my life I just take a little bit to warm up.  I dont want to force a friendship on anyone that really had rather not have another friend!  But once I see that we have gelled – you cant get rid of me or my silliness.  My husband having lived most of his life in this area is very comfortable with small talk (one of my greatest fears) and pretty much already knows where he is accepted and not.

I say all that to tell you about a day the students recently had at my son’s middle school.  It was called Talk Like Tucker Day.  My son is quite a mystery.  He has hardly any inflection in his voice when he talks.  He does not talk very often – at all.  When he does, listen up because he may only say it once.  Tucker is very shy and one with great potential.  It is quite interesting that he is so liked because one might often wonder where they stand with Tucker.  Because his voice is a bit monotone, well except for a crack here and there, it is so difficult to know when he is joking, when he is excited, or even when he is mad.  Tucker would never be convicted of being fake.  It is what it is, but one just might not know what it is – ha ha!  As his momma I do get frustrated at times.  Being such an animated person, I long for him to be sarcastic or jovial on purpose.  I even dream of him driving away in his car to go to college and yelling out the window, “I love you mom!!”  We have a few years to go!

But all this talk of personality, voice inflection, silly acting, etc. brought me back to prayer.  If your prayer time were taped and you could go back and hear the way you sounded with the Lord – does it convey a love, desperation, confidence, excitement, trust…in your words and possibly voice?  Would the Lord be able to know just by the words chosen this heart is for Him?  Do we come to the Lord as a last resort?  Do we come to the Lord out of obligation?  Do we come to the Lord because it is routine?  Do we come to the Lord in ritual?

Of course He knows our heart – praise You Lord for that – so He knows the true intentions and the very meaning of our words whether they have inflection or not.  But on the other hand, He is very well aware if we are just playing a game and being fake.

Oh Lord – have Your way.  Jesus, encourage me above all else to be real with You and to make sure there is no meaningless words brought to Your presence.  Lord, I want you to know by my words AND actions that I do trust in You.  I love you Father and I want to show you this.  I praise you Lord and I pray that can be seen in my actions and even in my voice!  Oh Father – may there be no holding back with you!  Oh Lord – help me to understand Whom I am addressing – to whom I am going boldly before the throne of Grace!  Oh Father – give me a Holy fear and reverence for You like I have never had before.  Jesus – You deserve it all.  No questions left unturned.  No thoughts not addressed!  Thank you Jesus for your mercy.  Thank you for the grace!  Thank you for being love, all consuming love that I know so well, but long to know in greater detail!  Jesus – you are it and you are all!  I love you!!!  (screaming loud with one hand raised typing slowly – ha)

Prayer Gifts by Leebirdfree!

Talk about an encourager – this is my friend Lee!  She is an extremely caring lady that also has a great name – ha!  Lee is one of those friends that when you see her name come across your twitter feed or FB wall or even by email you dont panic wondering what she wants.  You know whatever it is will be uplifting, joyous, and in step with Him!  I love me some Lee and have been forever grateful since the day we “met”.  My prayer is that she and I will live on the same street or at least neighborhood in Heaven!  Thank you Lee for guest posting today!  Hope you will come back!

Prayer Gifts by Lee Merrill

When I pray, I feel like I’m slow dancing with Jesus. With a smitten heart, I stand on tip-toe to whisper my heart into His ear. In turn, He whispers His heart into mine. Together, we discuss the needs of the people I love. Sometimes, I write them down; I call them prayer gifts. Prayer gifts allow me to place the prayers I pray into the hands of those I love. A double blessing, prayer gifts petition the heart of God and uplift the heart of people.

My first prayer gift was born out of the need for a cheap gift.  A church friend’s birthday rolled around, and I was flat broke.  I fumbled around and found some pretty stationery, wrote her a prayer of blessing, and handed it to her at church, apologizing that I had no real gift.  Her response floored me!  “Never in my life have I received such a beautiful thing! I will keep this forever.”

Soon, the Lord nudged me to expand my prayer gifts to non-Christians. I’m not gonna lie, sisters. I was scared. I didn’t want my friends without Jesus to reject me. I didn’t want them talking about their wacky religious friend behind my back. But the Spirit compelled me. I had to do it.

My co-worker, Christine, had a birthday close to Christmas time, so I wrapped up a couple Karen Kingsbury books and tucked a prayer gift inside.

All through Christmas break, I worried about how she’d receive the prayer gift. I mean…I didn’t pussy foot around, friends. Timid prayers are for sissies. I prayed gutsy stuff! For God to capture her heart and astound her with His powerful presence. For her marriage and family life to be enriched by the influence of Jesus. For her to understand that true life begins with Jesus.

Guess what? Not only did she receive the prayer gift with joy, she informed me that she would be expecting one every year for the rest of her ever-loving life! This year, I believe she’ll be receiving her seventh annual birthday/Christmas prayer gift. I’m still praying and waiting for her to give her heart to Jesus. Her heart gets a little softer every year.

Prayer gifts are perfect for any celebration: birthdays, weddings, babies, and housewarmings.

They are a soothing balm for heartache: grief, unemployment, divorce, and miscarriage.

They speak power into the hearts of people making a difference: women’s ministry leaders, teachers, bosses, and caregivers.

They spur on God’s girls (and fellas) to pursue godly character: grace, strength, peace, and freedom.

A prayer gift is the marriage of two of my passions: prayer and writing. Join me on my blog each week for Prayer Gift Mondays! As long as there are people in need of prayer, I’ll be penning prayer gifts!

Connect with me (and my prayer gifts) on my blog (http://prayergifts.blogspot.com, on Twitter (@LeeBirdFree), and on Face Book (Lee Walker Merrill)

How do you know when you have suffered?

Print this entry

29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him  Phil. 1:29

Have some question weighing on my heart and mind today.  Hopefully I can get them all out before the kids wake up.  We don’t have school today and my daughter had a sleepover……..hopefully they will sleep a long time!!

Take a look at another interpretation of the same scripture above.  There’s far more to this life than trusting in Christ. There’s also suffering for him. And the suffering is as much a gift as the trusting. Phil. 1:29

Wow – suffering is as much a gift as trusting – that is deep and profound and convicting too.

How do YOU know when you have suffered for Christ?

Have you ever suffered for Christ?

What was that like?

Did you get to the point where you felt it was a gift?

How do you tell the difference between suffering and discipline?

Is physical sickness and disease part of suffering?

I really would love your thoughts on this!!  You are welcome to email me as well.  I have lots of opinions, but I want to hear from you.

Have a wonderful day – I’m off to do laundry!!

I’ve got my spurs out!!! Can I count on you?

Print this entry

Hebrews 10:24-25

The Message (MSG)
22-25So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.
I can not tell you how many times people will leave the church because no one called them to say they are missed. I can completely understand where the people are coming from, BUT……. when they were here who were they calling to say they missed them? It goes both ways. I do good to make sure I have 6 heads in the car, mine included, going to church and then getting back home. I can hardly think who was not there. But the one way to make sure we are constantly encouraged is to be an encourager. Kind of like to have a friend, you have to be a friend. The Christian life is nothing more than a constant giving of ourselves. If we receive anything back, then praise Him, but do not expect it.

With that giving mind in perspective the verse above says “let us consider”. That consider there means to contemplate. “How we may spur one another on” That spur means to move someone in a direction for results and it actually means doing something for them. So giving… it might take some work. Many times it will not be a rash or rushed decision. Now just because you get a quick idea doesn’t mean it is not a valid one or one to not take seriously in doing for someone.  Do this or that…………….now! Sometimes i react, sometimes not. But the main point is that we are to consider – contemplate, look for ways, be creative (ugh) – how we can spur one another one – move each other in the direction to be encouraged.

The last verse says that we are to “encourage one another”. That is not needed to be explained, but I did look up encourage. We are to be like Christ and He is our encourager. Advocate is the most common word used for Jesus as it pertains to encourage. He speaks to the Father on our behalf – praying for us. How cool is that??? In the Greek it is parakletos!! I love that word.

So friends – it is going to take a movement, effort on our part to encourage one another to achieve what He has called us to. We have to encourage one another – spur one another on towards love and good deeds – and good eating. When we feel a moment of weakness coming on – to overeat, to eat cruddy food, to not go to church, not attend Bible study, to skip out of aerobics, to not meet with a friend……………….. pick up the phone and call someone. Because here is the deal, if things work the way the Lord intends them to – someone calls you for a “spur on” and you do just that. Encourage them off the ledge and back to right thinking – rational thinking – you do not need another Little Debbie Swiss Cake roll. Then when it is your turn for a ‘spur on’ you have someone to call for encouragement. That is what God means when He says to not give up meeting together. Come together as often as possible, but when you are down do not give up on one another – spur on!!!

Who is the one you can call for a “spur on”??

All of a sudden my wheels fell off!!

Print this entry

Sometimes I think we get so caught up telling people to die for Christ, to reject yourself, to think only of others………….. Don’t get me wrong all of that is so true.  Paramount in being a true follower of Christ.  But i also long for others to know that following Christ is a lot of fun.  Jesus is a blast.  Because I find such joy in being with Christ and following Him the latter things mentioned don’t seem like such a drag – much like they are communicated at times.  So today I have a funny I found as I was studying Ex. 14.

Exodus 14 is the story in the Word about the Israelites crossing the Red Sea.  They were all complaining and Moses set them straight with a huge statement that really needs to be put to memory!!  As my buddy, Ryan Warren always say, that’ll preach!

Ex. 14:13-14  13 Moses spoke to the people: “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and watch God do his work of salvation for you today. Take a good look at the Egyptians today for you’re never going to see them again.

14 God will fight the battle for you.
And you? You keep your mouths shut!”

So then Moses, through the power of the Lord, parts the Red Sea.  So all the Israelites are crossing over on DRY ground as the Egyptians are still pursuing them.  As the night went on the Lord wanted to up the confusion of the Egyptians  and frustrate them all the more – i call it toying with them.  Destruction is on the way, but He is allowing them to get toyed with to make an even bigger statement – He is Jehovah God!!

Verse 25 cracks me up - 25 He made the wheels of their war-wagons come off, so it was hard for the wagons to be moved. So the Egyptians said, “Let us run away from Israel. For the Lord is fighting for them against the Egyptians.”

I know I’m being sarcastic here – but yes, it would be very hard for any vehicle to move if all the wheels fell off!!!  Isn’t it great that something so weird as all of a sudden wheels on wagons falling off made them have an “awe-ha” moment!  As they looked around and were not doing really well pushing the wagons on their own, one of the brighter warriors, must have been an wheel engineer, must have looked up and said, “Wait a minutes guys, this must be their God.  We gotta get out of here.  The wheels just fell of – who knows what is next…our heads!!!  Let’s go”………….but it was too late!!!

Just having some fun today.  Some Leigh interjection there!  Have a great day and please keep your wheels on!

Is it worth it – does anyone care?

Print this entry

Are you wore out and sick of fighting?
Are you not sure it is worth it?
Not sure if anyone will ever come to your rescue?
Is all your strength gone and courage fading?
Not sure if you believe HE will come and do as He says?

We have all been there and sometimes these lies of Satan can ruin our day, week, month, or even longer.

Take a few minutes to read this scripture OUT LOUD and find rest in its word!  Speak it over and over again until you believe it and feel its power.  Please speak it out loud so that the defeated one, satan, knows you mean business and will flee from you!  Do business with the Lord and may He see and HEAR your faith!!

3-4Energize the limp hands,
strengthen the rubbery knees.
Tell fearful souls,
“Courage! Take heart!
God is here, right here,
on his way to put things right
And redress all wrongs.
He’s on his way! He’ll save you!”  Isaiah 35:3-4

Friend – I am praying for you and so is Jesus seated at the right hand of the Father!!!  Find comfort today in the power of His word and in Him!!  I love you!

He said, "Destroy"!!

Print this entry

Is your place of refuge also a place where your enemies are destroyed?  I think that is a pretty cool idea!!  I can think of all kinds of places that I go to seek refuge.  There are certain friends houses I would go to.  There are even certain ones I would call on the phone.  I know I can always go to my momma’s house.  I count it a huge privilege to cuddle up with my hubs and find refuge!  But even at the safest times these places make me feel, I’m not sure any have the power to just speak and destroy my enemy!

I find great refuge on the alter of my church and in prayer services on Wednesday nights.  These are places where great power reside!  I know I can go to the Lord at any time and at any place, but these are the Lord’s and I feel so much closer to the Him in these places.

However, I do not have to be in a church to find refuge AND for Him to destroy my enemies!  I don’t even have to be in prayer at that very second when enemies are taken down.  I believe the Lord is fighting for me…always.  He is constantly destroying things set out to annihilate me.  And He is doing this with just words!!  ”Destroy”!!!

Deuteronomy 33:27

New Life Version (NLV)
27 The God Who lives forever is your safe place. His arms are always under you. He drove away from in front of you those who hate you, and said, ‘Destroy!’

Take rest in that – seek confidence in His refuge!!!  Tell Him out loud so the defeated one can hear!!!  You believe in His destroying words and appreciate it as well!!!

Friends – there is power in His words – so much more than we realize or will possibly ever realize!!!  Say His words, share His words, and live His words!!

Our softball and baseball teams won last night!!!  Oh Lord – may they have the same success again tonight!!!  We are praying for State Bound teams!

I love you Lord!!

You gotta know this – your hormones do!

Print this entry

We, women specifically, “feel” so many things each day – and most of us are moment by moment, changing constantly.  This is one reason I am so thankful to live in a day of a plethora a Biblical translations and interpretations.  Here is a scripture that YOU NEED TO KNOW and I have put it in lots of different translations so that no matter what mood or hormone that is working in this moment you can hang your hat on it – live by it – receive life and healing from it!!!  That is the way scripture is and should be in our lives – LIFE! HE has got you covered and will handle your stress and burdens if you allow Him to!  See below!

Psalm 68:19

New International Version (NIV)
19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
who daily bears our burdens. (This is the translation I usually study from.)

Salmi 68:19

Conferenza Episcopale Italiana (CEI)
19Sei salito in alto conducendo prigionieri,
hai ricevuto uomini in tributo:
anche i ribelli abiteranno
presso il Signore Dio. (maybe you are feeling a little sassy Italian?)

Psalm 68:19

Young’s Literal Translation (YLT)
19Blessed [is] the Lord, day by day He layeth on us. God Himself [is] our salvation. Selah. (I love the way it says HE layeth on us – nothing will touch us!  We are covered.)

Psalm 68:19

New Living Translation (NLT)
19 Praise the Lord; praise God our savior!
For each day he carries us in his arms. (Again, protection, but we are in His arms.)

Psalm 68:19

New Life Version (NLV)
19 Honor and thanks be to the Lord, Who carries our heavy loads day by day. He is the God Who saves us.

Psalm 68:19

New King James Version (NKJV)

19 Blessed be the Lord,
Who daily loads us with benefits,
The God of our salvation!  Selah (much benefit to following Him.)

Psalm 68:19

The Message (MSG)

19-23 Blessed be the Lord—
day after day he carries us along.
He’s our Savior, our God, oh yes!
He’s God-for-us, he’s God-who-saves-us.
Lord God knows all
death’s ins and outs.
What’s more, he made heads roll,
split the skulls of the enemy
As he marched out of heaven,
saying, “I tied up the Dragon in knots,
put a muzzle on the Deep Blue Sea.”
You can wade through your enemies’ blood,
and your dogs taste of your enemies from your boots.  (The Message can hardly ever say anything concisely, and neither can I.)

Psaume 68:19

La Bible du Semeur (BDS)

19 Tu es monté sur la hauteur en emmenant des captifs.
Tu as prélevé des dons[a] parmi les hommes,
même parmi les rebelles, pour ta demeure, Eternel Dieu. (maybe for the french in you!)

Psalm 68:19

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
19 May the Lord be praised!
Day after day He bears our burdens;
God is our salvation. (A)  (This is not just a one time thing – this is day after day after day.)

Psalm 68:19

Darby Translation (DARBY)
19Blessed be the Lord: day by day doth he load us [with good], the ùGod who is our salvation. Selah.  (little Hebrew(???) added to explain a characteristic of God more fully.)

Psalm 68:19

Contemporary English Version (CEV)
19We praise you, Lord God!
   You treat us with kindness
   day after day,
and you rescue us. (I love thinking about His kindness, such a gentleman.)

詩 篇 68:19

Chinese Union Version (Simplified) (CUVS)
 19 天 天 背 负 我 们 重 担 的 主 , 就 是 拯 救 我 们 的 神 , 是 应 当 称 颂 的 ! ( 细 拉 )(Done forget I think you read this one backwards!)
