We are a culture that loves watching, reading, and listening to other people’s stories.

Why?

Because stories add value to our own lives.  And stories let us know that we are not alone in our heartaches, struggles, and victories.

But, here’s the problem:

Too many of us thrive on second-hand stories.
In other words, we live off the stories of others and never write great stories of our own.

And trust me, I know all about thriving at second-hand stories.  Eight months ago my family made the biggest transition of our lives when I accepted the invitation to pastor a church in Natchitoches, LA.

It was a dream come true.  I was finally able to fulfill the call that God had placed upon my heart.

But then it happened.

I became busy.

When I became busy, I didn’t have enough time in the day to do the things that I needed to get done.  It got so bad that when I was at home, I was on the computer working.

And that is a serious problem.

Why?

Because your story is important.
We need you to write a great story and be the person you were created to be.  We need you to be your own first edition and not someone’s reprint.

So do something.

Do something unexpected.  Do something amazing.  Do something different.

And then share it.

Because the world will benefit from it.

Your story should compel us to step away from our televisions, books, and computers and live.
Really live.

And once we have really lived; we can share our own story.

Are you living on a second-hand story?

Michael is a husband, dad, pastor, blogger, creative, and map maker. You can read his blog “The Handwritten[1]” and follow Him on Twitter here[2].
